With the FA Cup dream over for another season following Tuesday's hard-fought loss to Garforth Town, Lee Rick has the opportunity to get his maiden win as manager - and our first victory of the season - at Stone Old Alleynians.

A familiar name, in a familiar place, but in entirely new circumstance. West have played Stone twice before, with a 2-0 home loss and 1-0 away victory - il maestro himself Stephen Hall with the solitary goal - in the curtailed 2019/20 North West Counties Football League season.

They moved to their current ground 2 years ago, shared with Newcastle Town - against whom we fell to a 2-0 defeat in a pre-season friendly last month.

Nicknamed The Old Boys, Stone have had a middling start to their campaign, an impressive opening day win at Darlaston Town before defeat at home to Sporting Khalsa and a 3-0 loss to Lye Town in the FA Cup.

The most famous name in their team belongs to a certain Taylor Swift, formerly of Alsager Town - however it's Jack Bowater, Mitchell Glover, and Jack Tomlinson who top the scoring charts with one apiece.

This season marks their sixth consecutive year in the Midland Football League Premier Division, following upwards movement from the 10th tier after the covid interrupted seasons. Their best return came with a 9th placed finish in 2024/25, dropping to 12th in an 18-team division last time out.

The GRG Stadium has a vaguely continental feel, as opposed to the tight-to-the-touchline grounds that are more familiar in non-league. Between the terracing and the pitch is a cycling track, with the arena doubling as a velodrome. Anyone who fancies travelling down the night before could even take part in the Freewheeler and Fixie session on the track, run by Newcastle Track Cycling Association.

Travelling to Stone Old Alleynians

Stone Old Alleynians currently play at the home of Newcastle Town - who have a fantastic guide on getting the GRG Stadium here which include all the information you need on parking and public transport, as well as links to further information on the ground itself.
