Lancashire FA Trophy second round draw

Following yesterday's news of our FA Vase opponents, the draw for the Second Round of the Lancashire FA Trophy has been made, and West Men have been handed an away trip to Darwen. The tie is scheduled for Wednesday 18 November.

West entered the competition at this stage, receiving a bye through the First Round. Darwen did the same, so neither side has had a competitive Trophy outing yet this season.

A previous incarnation of Darwen won this competition, though there may not be many in the crowd who remember that triumph back in 1933. The closest West have come to getting our name on the honours board was in 2021/22. A First Round win on penalties over Bacup Borough gave little indication of the run to come. A 4-3 win away at Prestwich Heys was followed by a 5-2 victory on the road at Ashton Athletic, which took us into the semi final.

The semi was played at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland, where a cup upset saw us beat then NPL Premier Division side Atherton Collieries 2-1. Coach loads of West fans made their way back to the same venue for the final, but Southport of the National League North had too much for us on the day, winning 2-1.
