Match Preview
At the end of a season in which our Men's team have played more matches than anyone else in the English football pyramid, our 65th and final fixture of the 2025/26 campaign takes us to Accrington Stanley for the Macron Cup Final.
An in-form AFC Liverpool side stand in the way of West's first cup silverware since 2013, and there is no doubting the Liverpudlians will be formidable opponents. The Non-League Reds finished their regular season with 10 wins from 11 games, and only playoff semi-finalists Atherton LR can boast a better record since the turn of the year.
West were one of the teams that were brushed aside during this run of form. Elliot Taylor scored a hat-trick for the Reds that afternoon en route to a second-place finish in the NWCFL Premier Division goalscoring charts.
West finished the season with a fixture pile-up of seven league games in fifteen days which resulted in a less consistent pattern of results. It ended positively though, with a 2-1 win at Euxton Villa on the final day of the season. It means that West do have the superficial 'home' advantage on Monday by virtue of finishing above AFC Liverpool in the final NWCFL Premier Division table.
In preparation for this final, AFC Liverpool hosted a friendly against the Great Britain U23 Deaf Football team, which they won by nine goals (accounts vary as to whether it finished 9-0 or 10-1).
It will be a day to savour for everyone associated with West after a season of highs and lows. The players and coaches that have stuck by the club during such a gruelling season have the chance to write themselves into West folklore, and we know the huge West contingent making their way to Accrington will play their part - just as they have in the 64 games leading to this point.
West in the Macron Cup
Despite both of West's senior teams reaching finals of knockout competitions in the last five years, the Club have not lifted a cup since winning the First Division Trophy (now the Edward Case Cup) in 2013.
The furthest West have previously ventured in the Macron Cup was in 2014/15 when our run ended with a 3-0 Quarter Final defeat to Bootle in front of 133 fans at Brookburn Road.
Our journey to Accrington has seen us eliminate Cheadle Heath Nomads, Abbey Hey, Ramsbottom United, Thornton Cleveleys (twice) and Burscough, the last two via penalty shootouts.
AFC Liverpool have progressed through all rounds in normal time, scoring exactly three goals in each tie. They have contest only one shootout all season, which they lost to Runcorn Town in the Liverpool Senior Cup.
About AFC Liverpool
AFC Liverpool (the 'AFC' standing for 'Affordable Football Club') were founded in 2008 by around 1000 Liverpool FC supporters who had grown increasingly frustrated by ticket prices at Anfield - particularly in the wake of proposals to play Premier League games abroad. They have however kept positive links with Liverpool FC, and were keen to stress at the time that the establishment of the new club was primarily about ensuring that there was an affordable team to watch in Liverpool.
Matches between West and AFC Liverpool are generally high-scoring encounters, with West's 4-1 loss in March a relatively low-scoring game. The previous four meetings each saw seven goals shared, with Liverpool recording two 4-3 wins and West prevailing 4-3 and 6-1.
Tickets
We have now sold over 900 tickets for Monday's Macron Cup Final against AFC Liverpool at Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium.
Supporters who haven't purchased a ticket in advance will be able to pay on the day, by buying at ticket from the Wham Stadium ticket office before heading to the turnstiles.
Travel
Our two supporters' coaches are now completely sold out.
There is street parking around the stadium and a car park onsite.
Otherwise, Accrington station is one mile away from the Wham Stadium. There is one direct train an hour to Accrington from Manchester Victoria. These trains leave at three minutes past each hour.
Matchday Information
West supporters will be located in blocks F, G and H of the seated HML Recycling Stand, along the side of the pitch, and the whole of the terraced Farley's Solicitors Stand, behind the goal.
All West supporters will have access to the same bars and facilities. Those with terraced tickets should enter the ground through turnstiles 1 to 4, and those with seated tickets can use turnstiles 1 to 5.
Turnstiles 1 to 4 are closest to the terraced end, which is where supporters will find the majority of food and drink kiosks.
Also inside the ground is Coley's, Accrington Stanley's large and modern clubhouse. All West supporters can access Coley's, which opens at 12pm and can be viewed HERE.
We have been informed that dogs are not permitted to the Wham Stadium, unless a guide/assistance dog.
The Wham Stadium is a cashless venue throughout.
Supporter Conduct
This is a hugely exciting day for everyone at West and we have no doubt at all that West fans will be a credit to the club once again.
Nevertheless, we wish to reiterate that West do not tolerate anti-social, threatening or discriminatory behaviour at any of our games, regardless of where they take place. Supporters are therefore reminded of the Club's Supporter Behaviour Policy, which continues to apply.
