Wythenshawe Town vs West Women
- Sunday 9th August 2026
- 2pm kick-off
- Pre-season friendly
- Ericstan Park, M23 9LL
- Admission £3
Pre-season comes to a close on Sunday with the short trip to Wythenshawe Town - new names in the Women's game, but familiar faces.
A change in set-up over the summer meant that Manchester Laces transferred their senior team to be under the banner of Town, whose ground that had been using for home fixtures over the previous season. Although the badge may be different, much of the personnel remains the same to those who played out a friendly 1-1 draw with West mid-season at the same location back in March.
Wythenshawe Town have taken over the league position of the former Laces first team, sitting one division below West in the North West Women's Regional League Division One Central - the same place in the pyramid as our reserve team. During their final campaign as Manchester Laces, they finished 3rd in Division One South, ending eight points away from the title.
West have had an encouraging pre-season, with statement wins against FC United and Leek Town bookending a draw against higher-ranked Wythenshawe (formerly Amateurs) and a loss away at Blackburn Rovers. This will be the last chance for fine tuning before the real stuff begins with the visit of Mancunian Unity to Brookburn Road on Sunday 16th August.
This fixture forms part of Wythenshawe Town's Launch Party event, with the promise of half-time games, inflatable darts, karaoke, stickers, temporary tattoos and cakes 'until they're gone'. Festivities are planned to last from 1pm to 5pm.
Travelling to Ericstan Park
Ericstan Park is serviced by strong public transport routes, with the Manchester Airport metrolink line operating between Chorlton and Wythenshawe. Your nearest stop is Moor Road, with the ground a 5 minute walk away. There are works planned on the tram network on Sunday, however, with the Altrincham, Trafford Centre and Eccles lines not running, and no trams operating between Firswood and Piccadilly Garden. Find out more and plan your journey here.
The ground has a small carpark, with limited on street parking. For further details, as well as all other transport advice, please visit the Wythenshawe Town website.
