West Women are back at Brookburn Road for a rare midweek fixture in Chorlton, rounding off a busy first fortnight of the 2026/27 NWWRL Premier Division season.

Our start has been mixed, bouncing back from an opening-day defeat to Mancunian Unity with an excellent 2-0 win at FC St Helens.

Sunday's trip to Bolton Wanderers was, however, a check on expectations for the season. A 3-1 defeat in Daisy Hill leaves us winless against the two pre-season favourites for the title.

While Bolton were deserved winners, on another day things could've turned out differently. An uneven bounce gifted Wanderers the opening goal, before the former West striker Naomi Lawrence bundled home from a corner.

A third was added with a strike from range in the second half, though after the interval West appeared much more cohesive. We created opportunities but lacked cutting edge until the 77th minute, when Zoe Anderson rifled home from close range. Sadly for the travelling support, the damage was already done.

Wednesday's visitors Nantwich Town come to Brookburn Road as reigning NWWRL Division One South champions. Having formed only in 2020, they wrapped up the title last time out with an impressive 44 points from 18 games - 14 of them wins - as they secured back-to-back promotions under the tutelage of manager Dan Mellor.

That form has carried on, with the Dabbers putting together some eye-catching results in pre-season before opening their NWWRL Premier campaign with a 6-2 win over FC St Helens, followed by a 3-1 defeat of Crewe Alexandra.

Saturday's 4-2 loss at Tranmere Rovers is the only blip so far. That was only their fourth league defeat since the start of the 2024/25 season; West will be hoping to add to that daunting total in the late summer sun.
