The Corinthians: We Were The Champions

The Corinthians: We Were The Champions

We would like to say thank you to the stars and crew of The Corinthians: We Were The Champions, as well as independent West Didsbury & Chorlton supporters group Union 1908, who came together recently for a fundraising event.

The film is a documentary about the ground-breaking women’s football team, with its roots in Fog Lane Park, who defied the FA ban on women’s football and travelled the world - from Europe to South America - picking up wins and trophies along the way.

After an extended run in cinemas nationwide, it's now available to view on BBC iPlayer - click HERE to watch for a limited time only.

West have been closely involved with the Corinthians film since the early stages of its production, with much of the filming and interviews taking place at our Brookburn Road home. We also raised funds for the documentary's Crowdfunder, helping to ensure the documentary became a reality by producing and wearing a special home shirt as well as merchandise promoting the film.

We were delighted to attend the red carpet premiere at HOME Cinema in March 2026, with our club also purchasing a pair of tickets for the first public screening to give away to a lucky season ticket holder!

The Corinthians stars and crew wanted to extend their gratitude, with a special screening of the documentary at Withington Public Hall Institute on Thursday 24th September the fruit of their thanks.

Six of the original Corinthians held an entertaining Q&A with director Helen Tither following the film.

We also held a club raffle providing prizes including exclusive Corinthians merchandise, and a shirt from West Women’s 2021-22 "Invincibles" season. These shirts can also be purchased HERE.

Proceeds from ticket sales were matched by independent supporters group Union 1908. Once raffle sales were added to that, we had £900 was raised for our Women's club.

West Women's next home match takes place on Sunday 11th October against Bury.
