West are back at Brookburn Road on Saturday, with AFC Wolverhampton City the visitors in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

We come into it off the back of a 3-1 defeat at Stockport Georgians on Tuesday night. After going into the break behind, Gee Baltazar slid home from a Latiq Roberts cross to draw us level early in the second half. A Georgians free-kick, and a late effort from close range, was enough for the home team to take all three points and rise to 11th in the table.

Two places behind them are this Saturday's opponents, AFC Wolverhampton City. The name is new, but the club is from from that, having started life as Old Wulfrunians in 1922. Under that moniker, they spent more than 80 years in the Birmingham Amateur Football Alliance, collecting many accolades along the way including three league and cup doubles in a row from 2002/03 to 2004/05.

In 2005 the club set up AFC Wulfrunians to step into senior football, starting in Division Two of the West Midlands (Regional) League. They won it at the first attempt and were promoted again a year later. The Premier Division title followed in 2008/09, but their ground didn't meet the grading and promotion was refused. They had to win the league again in 2012/13 to move up to the Midland Alliance, and have been in the Midland Football League Premier Division since it was formed in 2014.

Their home since 2009 has been Castlecroft Stadium, built by Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 1950s as a training ground and later owned by the RFU, before the club took on the lease. Wolverhampton Wanderers Women have also played their home games there in the past.

They won the Midland League Cup in 2024/25, beating Stapenhill 3-1 in the final, and became AFC Wolverhampton City that summer, with the club saying it wanted a stronger identity of its own. The first season under the new name brought a fifth-place finish on 62 points. This one has been patchier. They sit 13th, and Tuesday's 2 - 2 draw with Sporting Khalsa at Castlecroft followed three straight home league defeats.
