After a break, West head to Stockport Georgians hoping to get back to winnings ways after a loss at table topping Winsford.
Sam Dickov gave Lee Rick's side the lead in the first half, being slid through by Oumar Camara before sitting down the keeper and chipping into the net. In an attritional game of few chances for the majority, Winsford United drew level with a header at the far post after 55 minutes. Deep into injury time, confusion in the box allowed a blue shirt to poke home, and give the hosts all three points.
Tuesday 20th October takes West to Woodsmoor for a first competitive visit to Cromley Road - one of the shorter trips of the campaign, but to a ground with plenty of history.
Georgians were founded in 1908 - the same year as West - starting out in the Stockport Sunday League before taking the name St George's in 1923, after the church of the same name in Heaviley. The best part of the following century was spent in the amateur game, before a step up to the North West Counties in 2022. Last season, a fourth-placed finish in Division One South was followed by playoff success, sealed with a final win over Eccleshall, to take the club to step 5 for the first time.
Cromley Road has been home since 1925, when the club moved on from their early days at Nangreave Road. Aside from a three-year spell in the early 1970s - when the state of the pitch sent them to Woodbank Park and Davenport School - they've been there ever since, meaning the ground has now hosted more than a century of Georgians football.
In 2015, the football club converted a former BBC studio building into a clubhouse, after a crowdfunding campaign raised more than £10,000 to fit it out. Tucked away at the end of a residential street, the ground sits back to back with Stockport Georgians Cricket Club.
The sides met at Brookburn Road in August, and the game was effectively settled inside 21 minutes. Joe Berks struck from distance after three minutes, Victor Abadaki added a second five minutes later, and an unavoidable own goal from a corner made it 3-0. Georgians pulled one back on the counter before the break, and Brandon Dawson's second yellow left us with ten men for the final half hour, but the result was rarely in doubt. It was a landmark night for Billy Matthews too, whose 228th appearance made him our leading appearance maker since joining the pyramid.
Getting to Stockport Georgians
Woodsmoor station, on the Buxton line, is a short walk from the ground. Trains run twice an hour from Manchester Piccadilly on weekdays, calling at Levenshulme, Heaton Chapel, Stockport and Davenport along the way.
Please check National Rail before setting off, particularly for the return journey after a midweek kick-off.
For those driving, follow Bramhall Lane (A5102) south from Stockport, passing Davenport station on your left, until you reach the Jolly Sailor pub on your right. Take the next left onto Woodsmoor Lane, then the first right into Flowery Fields, about 250 metres along. The ground is at the end of Cromley Road, with parking available inside.
