Next, we turn our attention away from the league, welcoming Mossley Hill Athletic to Brookburn Road for the first round of the League Cup sponsored by Macron, and looking to bounce back from defeat to Preston North End last time out. Behind 1-0 at the break, a change of fortune never came in the second half as the visitors took three well deserved points from their trip to M21.

Our cup opponents Mossley Hill Athletic play a level below us in Division One South, and were beaten 2-0 at Wirral Phoenix on 18th October. The result leaves them eighth of nine, with no points on the board after a three point deduction for failing to fulfil a league fixture in September.

Things started brightly enough. Mossley Hill opened the season with a 2-1 win away at Tranmere Rovers Development on 16th August, but have lost each of their five league games since, including a 2-0 loss against West Reserves. Cup football has offered little relief so far either, as Mossley Hill lost 3-1 at home to Pilkington in the Women's FA Cup on 23rd August,

Mossley Hill FC was established in South Liverpool in 1924, and the youth section has produced the likes of former England forward Toni Duggan and Liverpool midfielder Missy Bo Kearns, having added 'Athletic' to their name in 2008. We have met four times before, all in the NWWRL Premier Division across 2021/22 and 2022/23, and have yet to lose - winning three times, and drawing on our most recent meeting in October 2022.
