The FA Vase proved to be perfect distraction last weekend, as in-form Prestwich Heys visited Chorlton. Joe Berks opened the scoring with a free kick from range that beat everyone to sneak in at the far post, but his second is what this game will be remembered for. On a solo foray into the Heys half as they searched for an equaliser, he outfoxed and outmuscled his man on the wing. Working his way into the area and at a tight angle he connected perfectly to find the far top corner, leaving the keeper with little chance and sending the shed end into raptures.

The 2-0 win puts us into the hat for the FA Vase third round for the fifth consecutive season, with the game to be played on the weekend of Saturday 28th November.

Stone Old Alleynians visit Brookburn Road on Saturday, with West looking to end a run of three straight league defeats. Stone are looking to turn the season around themselves, sitting second bottom after 14 games. After winning on the opening day, they've only tasted victory in the league once since - and that was a topsy turvy 5-4 against Tividale, the only side below them.

This will be our return fixture against Stone, having already travelled to their adopted home of Newcastle Town back in August. That visit gave us our first win of the campaign, with Joe Berks and Sam Dickov netting to complete a comeback as it finished 2-1.

Stone's last, and only, visit to Brookburn Road came over seven years ago, during the 2019/20 NWCFL Division One South campaign. They left as victors, Samuel Wilson scoring twice in the second half as we lost 2-0.

This season marks their sixth consecutive year in the Midland Football League Premier Division, following upwards movement from the 10th tier after the covid interrupted seasons. Their best return came with a 9th placed finish in 2024/25, dropping to 12th in an 18-team division last time out.
