West are back at Brookburn Road on Sunday to face Darwen, as we turn our attention back to the league.

The visit of Mossley Hill last weekend in the League Cup ended with a comfortable 7-2 win, but it is a scoreline that belies the overall flow of the game. The visitors seemed like they were going to push us close until relatively late on, with the score 3-2 in the 67th minute. From there, the floodgates opened: Ava Bushell ended with a hattrick, while Lois Shenton and Milla Jacobsen both bagged braces.

Back in the North West Women's Region League, we sit third on 18 points from ten games, two clear of Darwen in fifth, with Nantwich Town level with them on 16. A win on Sunday would take us to 21 points and potentially up into second place pending the result of top of the table Bolton Wanderers facing title chasing Mancunian Unity.

Darwen will not be a quiet afternoon, and they have great pedigree in this division having been one of its most consistent performers. They finished 4th last campaign, coming off a season of being runners up in 2024-25. With their own League Cup fixture not scheduled until the 29th November, they are coming off a 1 - 0 win over Poulton Vics, having lost to Nantwich Town the week before.

This will be our 12th match against Darwen and it is a fixture they've had the better of the previous 11, winning 6 to our 3. One of that trio came on their last visit to Brookburn Road in December 2025: a Louise Ainscow and a Naomi Lawrence double secured us a 3-2 win.
